Still Sick & Sleeping Still: The Writing Process

The Author By Kelly Hayes-Raitt | July 19th, 2012 | Comments No Comments

I wake at 6:30 with the morning light streaming in over the back garden, check the emails that streamed in overnight, and steam my taxed lungs and sinuses over the stove. By 8:00, the neighbors have left for work and the flat is quiet again. I snooze until 9:00, 9:30, 10:00. I drag myself out of bed to shower and again check emails. I’ve been forcing myself out for at least a couple of hours each day, only to crash around 4:00 for another 2 or 3 hours of deep sleep. In between, I pop copious amounts of Vitamin C, drink a honey/lemon hot water concoction and steam with tea tree oil.

I used to get angry with myself for “wasting” time, but I’ve come to learn that this is the way my psyche gets ready to write after weeks of left-brain logistics and traveling…And, of course, my body needs to shake this cold. What’s your favorite cold remedy? Or writing remedy???
